Take the Time Off.
Keep Your Caseload.
Temporary therapy coverage for clinicians who need to step away from their practice.
We all deserve to have work/life balance.
Let me help!
(if your clients are located in Michigan, Ohio, or Florida and open to virtual counseling)
If you've built a solo practice, you know how much work goes into building a caseload you love.
You've spent years developing relationships, earning your clients' trust, and creating a practice that supports the life you want to live. So when you need to take an extended period of time away, there can be a difficult question underneath all of the logistical ones:
What happens to your caseload while I'm gone?
Not every client will be able to wait several weeks or months for you to return. And while taking time away may be exactly what you need, the possibility of returning to an empty calendar and having to rebuild your caseload can make that decision feel much harder.
Hi, I’m Kayla Vander Haar. I’ve got a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and I’m an independently licensed counselor and have owned my own virtual solo practice for 1 year. I have experience working in group private practice, community mental health, and international conflict resolution work. I’m part of the LGBTQIA+ community and have a secular approach that’s rooted in narrative therapy and trauma-informed care. I’m also EMDR trained for individuals and couples.

How Does This Work?
You work with your caseload to determine who might want to and feel comfortable with having temporary support. Some caseloads are perfectly appropriate for pausing care and you might not need me.
You Realize That Time Off Makes Sense
Your clients sign ROIs so you can let me know about your cases and we can make a clinical game plan that we feel comfortable with and plan for approximate length of coverage.
Reach Out & Let’s Coordinate Care
I use SimplePractice which makes the process seamless for clients. They will electronically be able to fill out all my intake forms and then be able to select flexible appointment options through the portal. Payment is also handled automatically with each session.
Your Clients Are Invited Into My EHR
I offer flexible scheduling options where clients are able to select different times each week that work for them between the hours of approximately 8am-9pm on weekdays. My main clinical approach is from a narrative approach which works very well with clinical coverage. I help your client reflect on the work they’ve done with you and how they can update their internal dialogues to include that progress. We’ll also work on concrete skills and window of tolerance insights.
Treatment With Me
Your clients will have been building on the work you’ve done with them while you’re away. We’ll be talking all the while about integrating what we’re doing into the overall work that you’ll continue to do with them. They get to experience a healthy and predictable goodbye from the temporary work with me. You come back and the hope is that your income comes right back too.
You’re Ready To Return
Your Clients Can Keep Building On Your Work, Even While You're Away
My goal when providing coverage is simple:
Your caseload remains your caseload.
I'm here to provide temporary support while you're away, not to take over your therapeutic relationships or build a permanent caseload from your referrals.
I can step in, get oriented to your clients' stories, and provide meaningful therapeutic support while you're unavailable. When you're ready to return, we'll work toward transitioning those clients back to you.
I've already had the opportunity to provide this kind of coverage for other clinicians and have supported clients during their therapist's absence before returning them to their primary clinician.
The hope is that you can take your time away knowing that your clients are being cared for and that you have a plan for returning to the practice you've worked so hard to build.
